Marginalia

This project explores the relationship readers have with texts. As readers move through texts, they underline, circle, doodle, or write notes in the margins; this "marginalia" is a direct and unmediated physical manifestation of the reader's thought process. I'm sending letters to people asking them to send me a photocopy of a page from a book they have annotated. Enclosed with my request is a form asking for basic bibliographic information on their chosen text and why it was chosen for the participant to fill out and return with their photocopy. The participant's marginalia and forms will serve as source material for drawings and possibly other media. Following are a sampling of responses I've received so far.
