Rosil blinks into the winter sun. He is already out of bed and stands leaning against the window. He is listening to the cracked voice of the strange fat man who has appeared in the hospital room a little while before.

"...Yes, we admit that our advertising is definitely quite unusual, but we don't want to bore the citizen in the usual ways, which we regard as very tiresome, expensive and intrusive. We don't want to exhibit our faces on billboards, we don't want to print mountains of promotional leaflets that no one will read anyway, and we don't want to tickle our egos by forcing ourselves down people's throats on the TV. We don't want to be stars. No, our intention is quite different. We want to make stars of you. We want every one of you to become your own universe, so that instead of listening to the political dictators and the recipes for life they impose on you, you can discover your own unique being for yourself.
And that's why we haven't focused our publicity campaign on ourselves, but on you, citizens, individuals. Let's be honest: which is more use to a woman - a poster showing the blurred mug of some ageing politician, or some nice new boots? What will please a young man more - a leaflet with a cunningly phrased political programme, which is still jam-packed with lies and empty promises, or falling into a deep pit in the woods and having his life saved? Isn't the experience of looking death in the face amazing, especially when our party enables you to escape death, for the moment? Just think of the profundity of reflection on one's own life, and the priceless insight provided by a few days spent at the bottom of a pit! Realisation of the relativity of values previously taken for granted, and delight in freedom regained, is the greatest gift our party can offer a young man, at least at the start. And it's all entirely free of charge, I must add...
It is primarily in the future, however, that delight in freedom will accompany every member or supporter of Flirkal's movement. In our party, the noun „freedom" is used all possible grammatical cases, and everyone will have the chance to discover that what is involved is more than mere physical freedom, and is above all freedom of the soul."

"You jerks, are you trying to tell me you dug that pit for me on purpose?!!" Rosil turned round. One of his two colleagues, a dark-haired man in a night-shirt, had jumped out of bed and was yelling at the fat man, „I don't believe it! I'll sue!!!"
The fat man failed to bat an eyelid.
"We will teach you to be yourself," he continued with an indulgent smile.
"What sort of nonsense is that?" yelled the dark-haired man.
"But what if we aren't up to it?" asked Rosil. "Not everyone is capable of being himself."
The fat man considered for a moment.
"If you don't know how to be your self? Then we'll do it for you!" he grinned.
