The Firing Range is an exciting part of this project. The specs:

  • Tippman 98 Custom Paintball Gun
  • Nelson Oil-based Paintball Ammunition
  • 20 foot range
  • 6 foot 2 inch canvas (masonite backed) panel

In Part 1, I had designed a feeding mechanism that would dispense ammunition through a tube and into the top of the gun after the receipt was scanned. The engineering of the box never worked seamlessly so I disabled the loader and had a gallery assistant hand out the ammunition.

For Part 3, I have been working on a plan for a relay-controlled CO2 tank. This set-up will allow the hopper (ammunition resevoir above the gun) to remain full of ammunition and the operation of the gun to be controlled by a computer. When someone scans their ticket the computer will allow a set amount of air pressure to pass through the relay which will, in turn, allow the gun to fire, otherwise the gun will not function.

The Firing Range was constructed using translucent plastic sheeting and screen (the same materials used in commercial paintball ranges). However, the Firing Range in Part 3 will be built using actual sheetrock walls encapsulating the entire range.

There were three paintings created during Part 1, four during Part 2.
