    Yes. You do need an audience if you expect your art to be interesting. As the word itself says, it needs to cause interest, interest in the people that see or experience you art. In the end, art is about expression. And expression is about communicating. So you need *someone* to communicate your art to.

    In both senses, someone else, other than the artist, needs to exist in order for the concepts of "artist", "art" and "work of art" to exist.

    um no, you don't need other to think your art is interesting
    (is that what you were asking?)
    art is about finding something about yourself and expressing it
    it's totally personal and sometimes just for the person creating it to delve deeper and discover something new.
    all you need is your approval of your art and you'll be an artist in my book!
