Did I have a HEART ATTACK last night?

Last night I thought I was having a heart attack. I'm 25 years old, in good shape, and have never had any medical issues. I had smoked some ganja about 30-40min beforehand (which is a regularity for me and has been since high school, with no problems). After I smoked I started to think how weird it is being a human, having organs, etc. I'm fairly depressed and was laid off 3 months ago.. I was working on wall street. So lastnight.. I was lying down in my bed watching TV thinking about how weird it was to have organs and stuff, then BAM!!! My heart and head started to pooound! I got up and went for the stairs. My heart started pounding so intensely that it dropped me to the ground.. with my head pounding too.. everything was dark (no lights on).. i couldn't reach the lights, and I wanted to yell to my dad for help but couldn't. I couldn't believe what was happening.. I was just hoping this wasn't the end, but I "knew" it was. It felt like I was going to die the way things were feeling in my body. Then, suddenly after maybe 1-2 minutes, the heart pounding subsided just a little, and I was able to get up and race to the faucet in the kitchen. I poured cold water all over my head, hair, and face for a few minutes. Then I started to return to a normal state and I sat down and took deep breathes. I was able to go to sleep a few hours later, scared.

I'm still scared now. I did some research and it looks like this could have only been a panic attack? I never knew panic attacks felt like your going to die of a heart attack. I'm at a loss right now, I've never had anything like this happen to me. I currently have no medical insurance and i'm just making rent. Anyone with any advice or suggestions, please advise on the steps I should take/what happened to me, it'd mean a lot to me.

Thanks

You wont want to hear this but you did ask so

quit the ganja! I believe this is the contributing factor and cause of the anxiety attack.

Sorry you were so scared. It does sound like some sort of panic/anxiety attack which may not be unusual considering the pressures and stresses you have had with job loss and being skint.

Try doing some light relaxation exercises each time you feel remotely anxious or stressed as they will help.
If you feel heart pain again with no easing then you must see a doctor asap although i do not think this is cardiac related.

Thank you all for your feedback. I believe that, for whatever reason(s), after quite a few years strong on the ganja, i can't smoke anymore without experiencing an anxiety attack. I'm hopeful this will have its upside (no more ganja for me).

A heart attack would not subside after 1-2 minutes.

Sounds like a panic attack, or palpitations (which should always be checked out) both can be caused by stress/anxiety/paranoia/WEED.

Just lay off the 'ganga' for a while. You're poisoning your body and your mind.

You should see your doctor, if anything just for stress, it is not easy to deal with a layoff but these days its the norm..and if you live with your dad at least you are not dealing the chances of eviction. Still a person who is hard up for cash shouldn't spend it on "ganja"..so what if so far there has been no problems, that **** causes problems LONG TERM....Seriously dude, filling your body with chemicals is no way to handle your life and believe me sooner or later your body will fight back..it COULD have been something with your heart, so get it checked..sorry answer so preachy but it's better than the first two..lol..good luck:)

This could very well have been an adverse reaction to the ganja because the time frame would allow the chemicals to get into your bloodstream by now. Your body is trying to tell you that you need to not do this again. I do not believe this was a panic attack although that is always a possibility - I believe it has a direct correlation to you smoking which means you need to avoid this stuff in the future because each successive reaction can be worse than the last one. Who knows if the stuff was laced with something bad and that is why you had this reaction. You might consider starting an exercise program-walking is easiest - start slowly and gradually build up to 30-45 minutes per day at a brisk pace. Warm muscles from exercise secrete serotonin which is the "feel good" chemicals in your body which can help ease some of your depression symptoms rather than smoking ganja. There is also St. John's Wort for mild depression which is an over the counter herbal supplement. There are other ways of coping with job loss and being a responsible adult requires you to do the right thing rather than using crutches to deal with these temporary setbacks.
